Add these sights to your Kiama list

The guides above cover the beaches, the Blowhole and the Coast Walk. These six places round out a first visit, from a second blowhole to a rainforest walk. Walk times are measured from the apartments at 2 Surfleet Place.

Little Blowhole

Tingira Crescent, Kiama · about a 20-minute walk (1.6 km)

Go when the sea is coming from the north-east. Destination Kiama calls it arguably more consistent than its larger cousin, and it's often at its most dramatic when the swell is small. Watch from the platform or the rocky foreshore. Parking and a picnic area, but no provision for access needs.

Saddleback Mountain Lookout

Saddleback Mountain, Kiama · about 9 minutes from the apartments by car

On a clear day you can see from Cronulla in the north to Milton in the south. There's a north-facing platform off the main car park and a newer southern platform a little further up.

Minnamurra Rainforest Centre

345 Minnamurra Falls Road, Jamberoo

Open 9am to 4pm daily (closed Christmas Day), with a $12 vehicle fee per day. The Lyrebird loop takes about an hour and suits children. NPWS posts alerts for the park, so check them before you drive out.

Jamberoo Action Park

1215 Jamberoo Road, Jamberoo

NSW's largest family owned and operated water theme park, in its own words. In October it opens Friday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm. Check the park's calendar for other months.

Spring Creek Wetlands bird hide

Via Glenbrook Drive off Dido Street, Kiama

A bird hide between the lagoon and a freshwater lake, with cormorants, moorhens, coots and swans. The path carries on through the wetland to the southern end of Bombo Beach. Pick up a bird brochure at the Visitor Information Centre.

Pilot's Cottage Museum

Blowhole Point Road, Kiama · about a 35-minute walk (2.9 km)

A maritime and regional museum in a restored cottage built in 1881, on the same road as the Blowhole. Open Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 3pm.

The Little Blowhole in Kiama

Spend one day in Kiama from your door

You can see Kiama's headline sights in a day, mostly on foot. Here's a route that starts at your door.

  1. Morning walk: head to Easts Beach, about a 15-minute walk (1.3 km). It sits on the Mid section of the Kiama Coast Walk, which runs 6 km between the Blowhole and Loves Bay (about 1.5 hours, medium to hard).
  2. Late morning: follow the coast north past the Little Blowhole to Blowhole Point. The Kiama Blowhole has thrown plumes over 30 m and performs in a south-east swell. The lighthouse and the Visitor Information Centre are right there.
  3. Lunch: walk round to Kiama Harbour for fish and chips, or browse where to eat in Kiama.
  4. Afternoon: cool off in one of the Kiama rock pools. On a Wednesday, the Kiama Farmers' Market runs at Coronation Park from 3pm to 6pm in daylight saving time and 2pm to 5pm the rest of the year.
  5. Evening: drive up to Saddleback Mountain, about 9 minutes from the apartments, for views along the coast. Our sunrise and sunset guide has more spots.

Staying the weekend? Spend day two south in Gerringong (8 km, about 10 minutes by car) or inland at Minnamurra Rainforest and Jamberoo. For a full plan, see our Kiama weekend getaway page.

From the Sydney CBD it's 134 km to the apartments, about 1 hour 45 minutes by car without traffic. Each apartment has secure garage parking for two cars, so you can leave the car once you arrive. Shellharbour Airport is about 20 minutes away.

By train, Kiama station is about a 27-minute walk (2.2 km) from the apartments. Minnamurra station is the start of the Coast Walk's North section, and Gerringong station is 1.4 km along Belinda Street from the walk's southern end, so you can walk one way and ride back.
