Things to do in Kiama at night, from sunset to last drinks

Things to do in Kiama at night start with sunset from Saddleback Mountain Lookout, then the Blowhole, which is floodlit after dark. Book dinner at Silica or Yves Social, sing at Friday karaoke at Kiama Bowling Club, catch Friday music at the Grand Hotel, and take a club courtesy bus home.

Plan an evening in Kiama

Kiama is a small coastal town, so its nights are about a good dinner, a drink with live music and a walk by the sea, not big clubs. Most of it sits within a few blocks: Terralong, Manning and Collins streets, the harbour and Blowhole Point. Friday and Saturday are the busy nights. Several restaurants close early in the week, so check the days and book ahead.

Kiama Ridge Waters is on a quiet residential street south of the centre. Here's how far the main evening spots are from the apartments.

Watch the sun go down from the hills and headlands

Kiama's coast faces east, so the sun sets behind the escarpment, not over the sea. The show is in the sky above the ocean and the silhouettes of the hills. In 2026, sunset ranged from about 4:52pm in mid-June to 8:13pm in early January, according to sunrise-sunset.org. In mid-October it is about 7.10pm.

  • Saddleback Mountain Lookout: views from Cronulla to Milton on a clear day, according to Destination Kiama, from a north-facing platform by the car park and a southern platform further up. It's about 9 minutes by car.
  • A Gerringong winery: Crooked River Estate runs Kick Back Fridays at its cellar door from 5pm (see below).

Our Kiama sunrise and sunset guide has times for every month, and Kiama lookouts covers more viewpoints.

See the Blowhole under floodlights

The Kiama Blowhole doesn't close when the sun goes down. The area is floodlit after dark. It sits next to the Kiama Lighthouse on Blowhole Point, so you get both in one short stroll from the car park.

Go after dinner and you'll share it with far fewer people than in the day. The Blowhole needs a south-east swell to fire, so a flat night may be quiet. Check the Bureau of Meteorology coastal forecast before you go, and note that lighting times can change.

From the apartments it's about a 35-minute walk (2.8 to 2.9 km) or a 5-minute drive. Stay behind the fences and off the rock platform in the dark, as the waves here are unpredictable.

Book a table for dinner

Kiama's dinner scene is small, so the good tables fill on Friday and Saturday. Book ahead, and check the days: several of these close early in the week.

Silica Restaurant on Manning Street sits by Surf Beach and builds its menu on South Coast produce. Its website lists dine-in dinner from 5.30pm, Wednesday to Saturday. It's about a 22-minute walk (1.9 km) from the apartments.

Yves Social at The Sebel has an ocean-view deck and a shared-plates menu with pizzas, cheese boards and a kids' menu. It opens from 5.30pm on Wednesday and Thursday, and from noon Friday to Sunday, and it's closed on Monday and Tuesday.

The head chef cooks barbecue over an open fire, homemade mulled wine is complimentary, and there's a fire pit with log seating, cushions and blankets.
